Gardening has been a hobby of mine for over 20 years. During my sons treatment for cancer in 2014-2016 my garden become a place of peace and retreat for me, a way to cope. Once we had come through the treatment phase and our visits to hospital became spaced apart I then saw the opportunity to create a business doing what I love and Villaleigh Plants was born. I look forward to being able to share my passion for perennials with others in this beautiful country through my online shop.
Located in the mighty Waikato, my current garden is approximately 1.5 acres and features all of the plants that I have for sale. This allows me to see the plants in their finest (and worst!) and determine their suitability, hardiness and how they behave in the garden! Being in the Waikato we have wet winters and being in a valley we also get our share of frosts, our summers are humid and I have had to build up shelter belts on the southern and western sides of the property to filter our prevailing winds. I am constantly on the lookout for new perennials to add to the garden, thus the lawn slowly gets smaller and smaller to make more room. My garden is not limited to perennials, I use a range of trees, shrubs, grasses, succulents, natives, annuals and herbs in my planting schemes and also have planted a large range of fruit trees and have an extensive vegetable garden to meet the needs of my young family.
Perennials are my passion, the excitement of seeing them emerge over spring and summer and watching the garden take shape as they bloom is breathtaking. It delights me to be able to share my passion with other plant enthusiasts.
Quality, Hardy Plants
All my plants are grown outdoors so are ready for planting straight into your garden. The main focus of the nursery is perennials but at times I will also be able to offer shrubs and succulents in the online shop.
Propagator and Grower
I grow all the perennials and other plants on site from seed, cuttings or division. They are grown on and sold in approximately 1L - 1.3L size planter bags or containers, unless stated otherwise - such as the Perennial Starters which are in 9cm pots.
